Discussion Topic 5

Due to the lack of available time I had this past few days, I replied to two of my fellow classmate's posts using a limited number of online sources (short online videos, Forbes article, and a handful of others). Since both discussion board posts I read had a similar writing style my feedback had similarities.

As a point of interest my location for this blog post is unusual.

The Martian Dream

 This morning I realized that I had yet to generate an AI image related to the subject of my Blog - Mars. The below is my first attempt, simply asking for a view of space from Mars. I must admit it came out better than I expected.

Planning for Week 5

While I have yet to complete the IP 1 for the current week, I decided to go ahead and start planning both DB for week 5 given the fact that I will be in transit during the week and may have challenges connecting to the internet.

I will be on a couple of flights, totaling over 23 hours, and my plan is to purchase WiFi access. However, that is conditional on the airline having it available and it not being excessively expensive.

 Following AI traditions, I asked for "santa clause in space" and got the below (among a few other options). I highlight the following because it does not appear to consider space vacuum.

 Comparative Analysis of Delphi Technique and Consensus Method in Group Decision-Making

The Delphi technique and consensus method are two prominent approaches used in group decision-making, each with unique applications and outcomes in real-world scenarios.

The Delphi technique, a structured method developed in the 1960s, involves a panel of experts who go through several rounds of questions to reach a consensus. A notable application of this method was by the United States government to assess the number of teen pregnancies in a municipality. The government appointed a project facilitator who worked with experts familiar with the locality to conduct surveys. Through multiple rounds of questionnaires and analysis, the experts provided high-quality information that helped solve the problem (ProjectPractical.com, n.d.). Another example is a project manager seeking to canvas opinions on product success in the marketplace. The manager used the Delphi technique with the organization's top 50 people, utilizing questionnaires to rate various options, leading to a decision to launch the business in Germany, as it received the most consensus (ProjectPractical.com, n.d.).

In contrast, the consensus method involves collaborative decision-making, where all group members contribute to the final decision. This approach was exemplified in a technology company's IT department selecting a new software system. The team discussed various software options, considered different viewpoints, and brainstormed solutions, eventually reaching a consensus on the most suitable software (Sharma, 2023). Another example is a marketing agency selecting a team lead for a project. Through discussions about each member's strengths and expertise and addressing concerns about workload, the team collectively agreed on the most suitable individual to lead the project (Sharma, 2023). Additionally, an HR department planning a company retreat demonstrated this method by brainstorming ideas, sharing personal preferences, and addressing budget concerns, ultimately reaching a consensus on the retreat's theme and activities (Sharma, 2023).

Both methods aim to enhance group decision-making but differ significantly in their approach and outcomes. The Delphi technique is systematic and relies on the expertise of selected individuals, making it suitable for situations where expert opinions are crucial. The consensus method is more inclusive and democratic, allowing for the participation of all group members, which can lead to greater satisfaction and acceptance of the decision. While the Delphi technique is efficient in reaching a decision quickly, the consensus method tends to take longer but can result in decisions that have wide support and buy-in from all group members.
